Due to my personal financial situation as a child, my family most times was not able to support this ministry on a consistent basis but the ministry was always very supportive and never once asked me to leave.
As a child I looked forward to the times that I went to "Amparo" because it was a place I could go and have fun, learn new things, and confide in the directors with my problems and my fears. This organization encouraged me to develop my talents and gifts that were within me. They helped to guide me into developing leadership skills, to nurture and believe in myself, to be a responsible citizen, to stay in school and to strive for the best. And at the age of 15 I was entrusted to lead the choir. Ten years have passed and I continue to help children who need love and a lot of understanding within this ministry by volunteering at Childresn's Safe Harbor. I can offer the same treasures and wisdom to other children, which helped me to overcome the day to day life challenges through Children's Safe Harbor.
In 1997, I graduated from Jules E. Mastbaum Area Vocational Technical High School. I graduated seventh in my class out of 250 students. I was class President, President of the Aspira club and a member of the National Honor Society, The White Williams Scholars and several others. I am currently a part-time student at Temple University, Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management with a 3.0 GPA. I accomplish this along with being a wife and the mother of a 10-month-old. I am employed full time at Independence Blue Cross with nine years of service to the company.
I am a devout volunteer in my community through my church as a Director and teacher for the children's group, as a counselor to the Youth and as President of the Women's Group. I am part of a Christian music ministry that reaches out to the community in various ways, along with a youth ministry that reaches out to urban youth in our community. I also continue to be part of the Children's Safe Harbor Staff.
I, personally, am extremely grateful to this organization for their constant support, love, and understanding through these past 16 years. I truly believe that this ministry has made me what I am today, a productive, well-educated individual. I am willing and able to reach out to my community because Children's Safe Harbor, Inc. gave me a helping hand. A hand that wanted to help me asking for nothing in return, except to help me accomplish achieve my goals. Thank you "Amparo" for ALWAYS being there for me.
Emerlinda Rosado
My name is Emerlinda Rosado and I am twenty-five years old. I have been involved with the Children's Safe Harbor, Inc. for 16 years. I came to the ministry at the age of 8 while living with my parent's family in North Philadelphia. I come from a poor family and a strict value upbringing.
Children's Safe Harbor is a ministry that supports itself primarily through the minimal donations that are required from each family in the program on a monthly basis. Most of the children come from very poor backgrounds and usually cannot make the monthly donation to the ministry.

Children's Safe Harbor (CSH) Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded and directed by Felipe and Myrtha Castro, was instrumental throughout my up bringing to help form me into the well-indoctrinated young man that I am today. Through CSH, I was able to develop my speaking abilities as well as my Bible-studying habits within the confines of a safe, nurturing, and Christian environment. CSH provided a safe haven that allowed me to grow in biblical wisdom, social stamina, and faithfulness toward God and my fellow man.
I joined CSH at the tender age of ten (only one year after having had my conversion experience to Christianity). I was a short, stocky, shy kid with a slew of family and social problems living within the ghetto of North Philadelphia. Having been surrounded with violence and tragedy all of my young life, I was fairly new to all of the Christian disciplines and teachings. However, through CSH I was able to adopt the Christ-centered lifestyle and the fellowship-centered social attitude that I still live out today!
I am very appreciative to CSH for its early intervention within my life. I could have "slipped through the cracks," but CSH heeded God's call to be a place of Christian instruction and refuge for me. In like manner, there are many Philadelphia children who have been blessed through this important ministry. Philadelphia should feel proud to have Children's Safe Harbor!
Today, as a volunteer Youth Pastor and as a College Recruiter for Nueva Esperanza Center for Higher Education of Eastern University, I use the skills that I learned throughout my younger years at CSH to reach others with the gospel and with the hope of a better future through educational achievements. I believe that Philadelphia is a better place because of ministries like Children's Safe Harbor; its contributions to our society's children are indispensable!
May God continue to bless Children's Safe Harbor with many more children to shape and mold!
